There are ways to receive help to obtain all or some of your medical career training for free in the state of Illinois.
Illinois Grants
Some students will qualify for grants through the state of Illinois which can help pay for their training and education. For instance, some individuals will be approved for the Illinois Map Grant. Scholarships

American Medical Technologists Institute for Excellence (AMTIE) offers five USD 500 scholarships each year to a student in need who wants to pursue a career in a course of study certified by AMT. Phlebotomist is one of the disciplines on their list. The award is used for Tuition fees and would be paid directly to the school in which the student is enrolled. The Deadline for application is the 1st of April every year.

The American Dental Hygienist Association’s Institute of Oral Health
The American Dental Hygienist Association’s Institute of Oral Health provides various scholarship awards for students enrolled in a Certificate or Association Degree program in Dental Hygiene in the United States. The awards range from USD 1,000 – 2,000 annually and are non-renewable. The student must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and should not be graduating in the same year. Scholarships applications open up on the 1st of October and must be applied for online on the ADHA website. Deadline for application is the 1st of February the following year.

Some scholarships are available on a monthly basis. They are based on answering questions or writing a short essay or even just sweepstakes. These however, are not entirely reliable but definitely worth a try. You can check these out on the websites of Unigo or Chegg. They have a list of many such opportunities.
Minority Status
There may be financial help available to you if you are part of a minority group that is considered underrepresented. The Aetna Foundation/NMF Healthcare Leadership Program provides $5,000 to the winning medical student each year. Your medical school will need to be in Chicago. You must show that you will work in locations that do not currently have enough well qualified doctors. This can be a great way to cover a few thousand dollars if your financial package left a small gap.
Home Health or Long Term Care Providers
It is often possible to obtain entry level training for certification in healthcare jobs from your employer. For instance, Apex Home Health will train individuals to work as Certified Nursing Assistants. The individual will receive about 2 months worth of training so that they can become full certified. The training will be at the facility directly. If an individual complete the full course without any problems, they will be offered a job by Apex Home Health. There are other home health and long term care providers in the state with similar programs.

Free training
The Job Corps Centers are a very good place to get free training if you are unable to afford education and are keen to turn your life around with a growing career. Job Corps Centers are a no-cost education and career technical program administered by the US Department of Labour. There are three centers in Illinois with a range of programs offered. They also provide boarding and lodging facilities and three meals a day during the course of the training.
Amongst other programs, the Joliet Job Corps Center and the Paul Simon Chicago Job Corps Center have training programs for Pharmacy Technician as well.
The Golconda Job Corps Center have a training program for Medical Assistants.

Lab Assistant-HSHS St Mary’s
You can train in a basic position to help you begin down a path of healthcare career by applying to be a lab assistant. The training you need to carry out the duties will be provided to you if you are hired for one of their positions. You will learn to take part in various phases of lab specimen collection and processing. Additionally, you will help to get results out to the parties waiting for them as soon as possible. EEG Tech-Edward Elmhurst Healthcare, Sleep Center
Begin your healthcare career by becoming a trainee to be an EEG Tech in the sleep center. You do need to have 6 months or more of some type of patient care/patient interaction experience to apply. Certified Surgical Tech-Geneva
You can play a vital role in the surgical function by training as a surgical tech. I surgical tech can take part in helping to prepare a patient for their surgery. They will also assist in getting all tools and equipment sterilized and in place for surgical procedures. There is an opportunity at Northwestern Medicine to train to become a certified surgical technician. You will need to obtain your full certification within 1 year after being hired.
